FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does Double Glazing Block Sunlight?

We recommend shading rather than tinting North and West facing windows during summer in order to provide the free heat provided by the sun during winter. We can however offer tinted glass if required. With no sun on the glass, double glazing insulates the home from heating up in summer or cooling down in winter.

Does BetFiery offer an installation service?

Yes! Whether you are building a new home or replacing windows in an existing home, we offer a service that includes removal of your existing windows and installation and glazing of your new windows using our own employees, not sub-contractors. Or, if you prefer you can use your own builder or trades person and we will be happy to give them advice. Contact us to discuss your requirements and to arrange a free measure and quote, or provide us with your plans.

Does uPVC burn?

The material cannot sustain combustion and will self extinguish as soon as any external flame source is removed.

Does weather effect UPVC?

Weather has no effect on UPVC building materials. Problems like rotting, rust, etc. just don’t apply. In special conditions like coastal areas (salty air, windy conditions, harsh sun) the benefits of UPVC are particularly applicable. Our system incorporates fully welded corners with co-extruded gaskets to both frame and sash providing double sealing against the elements. BetFiery has been supplying window to Antarctica where they are withstanding the extreme weather conditions without any problems.  We offer a 20 year warranty on all our frame colours.

Is uPVC a good acoustic insulator?

The combination of the UPVC material, the double-glazed sealed glass unit and the excellent system design, ensure superb acoustic insulation. Noise is reduced by up to 8 times compared to single glazing.

Is uPVC a good thermal insulator?

Yes, UPVC is a an excellent insulator. Unlike aluminium which is a conductor, uPVC is an insulating material and when combined with an IGU (insulated glazed unit) it is the perfect choice for maximum efficiency. Its coefficient of heat conductivity is actually slightly lower than wood at 0.17 W/mC°, compared with 0.23 W/mC°. The equivalent coefficient for aluminium is approximately 210 W/mC°. As 40% of household energy can be lost through windows huge savings can be made. A degree of comfort in the living space is achieved that cannot be equaled with single glazed aluminium windows.

Is uPVC Environmentally Friendly?

The lifetime of a UPVC window is estimated at double that of an aluminium window and three times that of timber. In addition, energy costs for fabrication of aluminium are three times higher than UPVC with timber being 50% higher than UPVC. The product can also be 100% recycled.

What colours are available?

White, Cream, Black Ash, Silver, Anthracite and Grey plus two wood grain finishes – Nut Tree and Golden Oak. Primrose is also available as special order. Visit our Colours page to view samples.

What glass options do you offer?

The configuration of our standard 24mm double glazed units are two 4mm panes of glass with a 16mm argon filled space with a rubber spacer. The rubber spacer provides additional insulation compared to the older style aluminium spacers. We are able to offer a very wide range of glass options and can vary the spacing of the unit and thickness and type of glass according to your what you are trying to achieve – whether it be maximise noise reduction, solar control, energy efficiency or security we can provide a solution for you.  Our windows can achieve a u-Value as low as 1.4 up to 2.3 maximum.

What Is Double Glazing?

Sealed unit double glazing refers to 2 sheets of glass seperated by a spacer bar filled with dessicant and completely sealed around the perimeter. The still air creates the insulation break while the dessicant prevents fogging from occurring inside the unit.

What is SHGC?

SHGC stands for Solar Heat Gain Co-efficient. A fraction of solar radiation admitted through a window or door (either transmitted directly and/or absorbed) is subsequently released as head inside the home. The lower the SHGC rating of a window the less solar heat it transmits and the greater its ability to block heat gained from the sun in summer. A window / door with a high SHGC rating is more effective at collecting solar heat gain during winter and keeping the home warm. Our windows and doors have a SHGC rating of 0.45

What is uPVC?

uPVC stands for unplasticised Poly Vinyl Chloride. It is a rigid plastic that is 100% BPA and phthalate free and lead free making it completely safe to live with in your home. uPVC can be recycled at the end of it’s long lifetime, making it one of the more environmentally friendly building materials. It is lightweight, easy to work with, durable and cost effective.

What maintenance is required?

Its closed, smooth surface means that UPVC is extremely easy to clean using a gentle household detergent dissolved in water. This also means that the product is virtually dirt resistant because there are no pores which can be filled with dirt. No sanding, painting or refinishing is required for the life of the window only a once yearly drop of oil to moving metal parts.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept payments by direct deposit, cheque, Eftpos, VISA card or MasterCard. We also offer Zip Money as a convenient and interest free payment option.

Why Can't I Use Windows From Europe?

The extrusion we use in Australia is of a different grade to that used in the UK and Europe to cope with our extreme UV conditions. Profile intended for these markets will rapidly discolour and degrade in Tasmanian conditions.

Why Choose Double Glazing?

Simple. Thermal efficiency, noise reduction and security. Double glazing far out performs any single glazing be it coloured, laminated or Low E.

Why choose uPVC?

Because it works. Aluminium is a cold conductor. Double glazing an aluminium frame is a waste of money.
The efficiency of the double glazed unit is negated and the units thickness limited when aluminium frames are employed. PVC is the best performing insulation material among traditional solutions for windows and doors in the market.

UPVC frames outperform the thermal efficiency of double or even triple glazed units, require no maintenance, will not rot, warp or splinter and are self extinguishing in fires.

Fitted with our standard 24mm double glazed units, our products far surpass the proposed 6 star legislation. Our system can carry up to 40mm triple glazing.

Why Deceuninck profile?

Deceuninck are a world leader in UPVC. Starting in Belgium in 1937 they are now worldwide. Deceuninck Australia has been established for 10 years and hold stock in Melbourne. The Solex grade profile brought into Australia is tried, tested and
approved to Australian standards for our conditions. In addition to this the Deceuninck profile is a 70mm wide multi chambered section. Advantages of this include; five thermal break chambers (most sections have 3) ,”Dry zone” for the hardware and reinforcement away from the water drainage path and a central rib for added security, stopping pry bars etc reaching the strike plates. The Deceuninck profile is manufactured with seven parts per hundred of Titanium Dioxide, the minimum requirement is 4 parts per hundred. Titanium Dioxide prevents ultra violet rays from damaging the uPVC.

Why BetFiery?

We are the only authorised Deceuninck manufacturer in Tasmania. We manufacture every door and window in our own factory giving our customers peace of mind that orders will not be delayed through freight and any issues should they arise can be addressed immediately. Unlike some manufacturers of uPVC windows, the Deceuninck Zendow profile that we use is extruded in Europe on state of the art machinery and is the same product offered by Deceunick world wide so you can be assured you are buying the most advanced frame on the world market. We pride ourselves on competitive pricing, rapid response to quotations, prompt delivery and the manufacture of the best product available. All of our hardware is of European manufacture and is selected on its quality, not its price. We will work with you or your builder from initial quotation to completion of installation and ensure you are 100% satisfied. We offer a wide range of uPVC colours and a large range of window and door types. All our products offer double sealing (frame and sash) and multi point locking giving the best thermal efficiency, noise reduction and security which is the whole point of double glazing.
